this 1kW turbine resides in northern China and is used to supply energy to a fish/plant ecosystem in a nearby greenhouse. It was made will all local materials and tools, and costs under $350.

  • Believe it or not, my turbine is spinning counter to the drag force.

  • great work alliismylover, thats a large turbine to construct yourself. As the other guy said, I wouldn't expect a full 1kw out of it though. Rememeber to to take your final P and then factor in the efficiency of small scale turnines, about 35%, and then the fact that VAWTS are typically about 1/3 less efficient than HAWTS, I would expect about 700 watts. Still great!

  • Thanks for the advice, though I would encourage you to explore actual data provided by nonpartison organizations about the efficiency of VAWT turbines, you may be surprised by the results.

  • I built this myself by redesigning the models NASA worked with in the 70's.

  • I am no expert, but I doubt that makes 1 kw

  • Go ahead and plug the numbers into the equation yourself.

    Average windspeed is V=7m/s

    Swept area is A=10 m^2

Assume air density to be that at sea level (location is 37 ft above sea level) p= 1.2 kg/m^3

Factor in the betz cooeficient 16/27

    P=(1/2)p A V^3

do the math and there is still room for inefficiencies. Also in the winter average wind speed here is more around 11m/s

Thats north eastern China for you

  • Nice job! just remember to ensure those guy wires are strong and TIGHT, you might want to raise the height of your axle so you can hook up MORE guy wires. The thing that killed larger versions of this windmill were "rotation of the earth" and the "centripetal force" working at cross purposes, this is a GOOD SIZE for this model. Cheers!

  • @alliismylover

good concept, and yes the math works in theory for the swept area but in all cases one of the big deciding factors is the ability of the rotor and alternator to harvest the theoretical power in the wind which in perfect conditions is closer to 45% but this appears to be working in the .05% area and barely supporting it's own rotation.

  • @henrykay01 People here are two things. Not retarded, and most importantly, broke.

  • i certainly dont belive that

  • I invented a breakthrough source of energy which violates the law of conservation of energy. I have a PROOF that there are electrodynamic phenomena which violate the law of energy conservation. Making a 6 kW generator will cost $1200 in mass production, value of energy produced yearly $5400.

I am looking for $300 000 for a prototype and $3M for patents.

  • Hehe :)

  • can´t see any generator

  • Great work. With ingenuity, talent and expertise like yours, what can we not achieve? As the creators of an online movement to promote reducing waste and carbon emissions, we applaud your initiative.

  • how possible the straight blades would make it turn. you need to give them some angle.

  • dont tell me that' s China!!!!!!

wow, i thought it was full of... ricefields or soemthin.

that turns horribly slow of 1KW dont you think?

and the wind is pretty strong. it should be spinning like crazy in that wind.
