Yes, exactly... The reference to political affiliation concerned by own views. This was what I was hinting at, it was entirely the result of group psychology operating under stressful conductions, as well as the desire to comply with authority that undermined their moral reservations. While I am aware of the Stanford Prison Experiment, I saw a strong correlation with the findings of the Stanley Milgram Experiment (electric shocks administered upon the command of an authority figure).

@raceystacey32566 I did claim they are 'mentally deficient.' I could even invision them excelling in a community college program. I merely argue they appeared to possess IQs negligibly below average, so slight as to practically lack any significance. In layman's terms I simply saying, these people weren't the sharpest tools in the shed. It didn't suprise me that they remained complicit or failed to comprehend they were unknowingly incriminating themselves with photographic evidence.

@Jsledge85 - Actually there is a 29min Video of the "Standford Prison Experiment" on UTube.
-
@Jsledge85 -The people involved didn't appear to have a learning disability. I didn’t get the impression they lacked the intelligence that would render them incapable of acquiring a college educated either. I didn’t even come close to suggesting the only reason they did it was because “they followed orders.” This type of behavior is against the Geneva Convention; therefore, unlawful.
-
@Jsledge85- It was against their better judgment and most likely, they felt it was morally wrong. I don’t think their behavior had anything to do with their conservative or liberal views pertaining to the treatment of prisoners. It has to do with the psychology of human behavior and group dynamics and social psychology. You may be familiar with the Stanford Prison Experiment – If not and are interested Google it.

@raceystacey32566 Ask why Waffen-SS members, many of whom were merely boys in their late teens and early twenties, commited atrocities of far greater moral depravity in occupied territories or death camps. Not all of them were indoctrinated, most still knew right from wrong, and struggled with the guilt of their crimes. They committed those acts because they truly were following orders and felt compelled to execute their orders even when they founnd them morally abhorrent.
-
@raceystacey32566 None of them seemed to be that intelligent, probably none of them are college graduates, certainly none of them are graduate school material. They followed orders. It is that simple. Someone in a position of authority told them to do something, and they complied despite the fact that their compliance was in opposition to their personal convictions in basic morality [I say this as someone who is conservative, not a liberal...]

@dbsknada: So why did this group of people do it? I'm not sure they know why they did it. I don't think they were so much making excuses for their behavior, as much as they were trying to understand it. What do we do to ensure this never happens again? Bush sanctioned torture. Obama signed it into law to include American citizens; accused as an enemy, you can be detained for the rest of your life. No trial,no lawyer, no proof. He appointed himself judge, jury, and exicutioner. NDAA 2012
-
@dbsknada I understand your point. Their behavior was wrong and they knew it.These people's action's were bad, but I don't think they are bad people. So why did they do it? Consider this: Why do normal people admit to a murder they did not commit? It's easy to say, I would never do that but it happens all the time.Given the same circumstances, how do I know I wouldn't admit to a murder I didn't do? I don't. Im not implying you would abuse people; most people wouldn't, under any conditions.

@brankavranic: Damn skippy!
Wait wait wait...no you're taught to follow LAWFUL orders. @1:43:18
