Just back from seeing Randy in concert. This song is one of my faves. I like your version. There's a bit of Rainbow Connection in the instrumental it seems...am I right? Another fave song of mine.

Haha. My ex used to sing this song to me...I only ever really paid attention to the nice parts of the song back then. Now that I'm listening to it with a few years of distance between us I'm realizing maybe he was trying to warn me! (or point out the obvious...)
Anyhow, still a lovely song and you've done a nice job of it!

usually i don't comment on videos of people playing covers, but this one struck me because i feel like you're so close to making this really good. i think you're just trying too hard with your vocals. listen to the way randy newman delivers every line in the original and think about the lyrics, how the writer is supposed to be drunk and singing to his lady.

it's funny you say that. i just listened to it again and i'm with you 100%. he's really loose and conversational with his approach while i feel my take was a bit precious. i'll work on it.
