Given that Demiath's Dungeon has an almost exclusively English-speaking audience, this video will probably not make a lot of sense to most viewers. But hey, it's part of my rather self-indulgent "Remembrances of Games Past" playlist, so please bear with me this once...

Norwegian developer Funcom's critically acclaimed adventure game "Den Lengste Reisen" (well-known as "The Longest Journey" in English) was translated into many languages and neighbouring country Sweden obviously got one of the first "localized" versions of the game. The Swedish edition of the game was notable mainly for having a famous (domestically speaking) actress - Regina Lund - doing the voice work for main character April Ryan. Although Lund's readings tend to be a bit flat and needlessly child-like, she at the very least got a distinct enough voice that it doesn't grate on you too much during the course of the game.

As for the game itself, I appreciated The Longest Journey for its solid production values, relatively logical and undemanding puzzles as well as the obvious care that went into the detailed mythology of the game world. I do think TLJ was slightly over-rated (the overall plot was fairly clichéd and some of the dialogue sequences went on for way too long), but I remember feeling kind of proud that a Scandinavian developer could pull off a polished, traditional point and click adventure game such as this. That the main protagonist herself is one of the more believable and identifiable female character ever seen in a video game is certainly worth mentioning, too...

Note: For some reason the cut scenes and other pre-rendered animated material couldn't be recorded.

indeed. the game introduces such a delicate, moving person to the role of main protagonist. I liked Sarah Hamilton as April Ryan. :-)

  • I haven't actually played the English version so I can't compare the overall quality of the voice acting, but I've heard a lot of good about the English localization so I'll definitely check it out at some point.

  • Now if only if Funcom would work on Dreamfall Chapters instead of MMOs.

  • For some bizarre reason this brought back memories of playing "Kings Quest III To Heir is Human", though graphically and audibly KQ3 pales in comparison to this game. + the main character to Den Längsta Resan is much more interesting & might I add.....perky.....lol.

And shows how absolutely stupid FunCom was to not follow this game up quickly with another adventure with April as the main character, to cement her personality so she could become a cultural icon, like Lara Croft. Instead they went to work on an MMO that will not be known where TLJ will be! Biggest mistake in games history!

  • ive uploaded all of this in english

  • i tried it but never got very far.

    didnt like it somehow.
