Why is it funny to see a African American wear African clothes, is African Culture is a Joke?

anything that is NOT a trend is a joke to some people.

remember back in the "baggy jeans & long t-shirts" era, if you had on skinny-jeans you were either going to get laughed at or called gay...now days since it's a trend, all the trend follwers got them on.

Its the media man. Its that simple. The movies and tv shows be making fun of african people. Just like they make fun of the asians

Africa doesnt have 1 culture though. Its a continent and has hundreds of cultures... Most of my roomates are from Africa and they both have different cultures.

It is because we are not used to seeing that just like if i went to pakistan in jeans and a shirt, with my white skin i would get funny looks

Well as a Nigerian myself, i can tell you that probably the reason it's a little funny is because usually when that hat or it's kind is worn you have a matching outfit as in the traditional attire... but I also agree with what @streetstryker says (the guy below me) as well.

No dude what makes it "funny" nd I quoted lol it's not the hat itself it's you wearing the hat. dude I leave in London and in the area I leave there are plenty of African men wearing those traditional hats and ladies with they're colourful head to toes cloths and hats, even the Somali lady I leave with and there is no humour in that, but the fact that's it's you wearing it makes it funny coz it's not what people , us your viewers are a-costumed to you know ur the cool hip guy, and all of s sudd

First if all I think it looks dope,...but I think people just react to clothes that are common for a certain people in the world. Anything foreign makes people laugh or react in a different way. For example every time I wear my black cap that a lot of British/European people wear, everyone is lookin at me weird and shit.

I think even if you went to Africa you would be laughed at because I don't even think people in Africa wear that stuff anymore.
