My way of recounting the events of the car crash I was in through lyrical prose. Thanks in part to the Create Real Impact contest, which prompted me to share my story in hopes that people will think about how their actions affect others.

Lyrics:
I said hey there, let's go, babe, out for a ride,
I'm seventeen and free; nothing better to do,
Built up with the promises of high dreams,
Living for the second when I break from parental roots,
I pick you up and guess what, I want to fly,
Down the interstate, and the breaks are far from my mind,
The chatter's what matters and I never see,
How this reckless driving could be one day the end of me,

I don't remember much about that day or why I was saved,
It wasn't even me, it was an SUV that lost control,
Steered right into me, all my plans and schemes,
Lost as my family ran up to the scene and saw me bleed,

It's not always your fault, but your friends could be the cause,
I'm hoping that my cautionary tale can save someone,
I've been in your shoes and I know that frame of mind,
But I've had to deal with the scars of reckless drives,

The Jaws of Life can save but the scars remain,
Audible, the sounds of metal parts being ripped away,
The flock of pedestrians gawk in place,
Wonder if they notice that it's me through that lifeless face,

I stumble from my seat to the gravel street,
A strong sensation from the hardened pavement meets my feet,
I realize in the blink of an eye, my injury
The car crash leaves me with a broken right leg at seventeen,

It's not always your fault, but your friends could be the cause,
I'm hoping that my cautionary tale can save someone,
I've been in your shoes and I know that frame of mind,
But I've had to deal with the scars of reckless drives,

I said hey there, let's go, babe, out for a ride,
I'm cautious as can be and I make sure she is, too,
Still I feel the scars in car rides,
My goal in life's to keep that from being you.
