Oh and I don't know how the waiting list is for housing but when I was there it was 1 1/2 years..........so outta 3 years I lived 1 1/2 off base and that wasn't too bad but damn it gets cold. Housing outside base is small and expensive.

Lived in Yokosuka, the units are nice, didn't mention it may cost $600-$800 dollars to have a phone line, they sell the numbers so it might be better to have a cell phone. Cars are cheap if you get them from someone who is leaving base and you get the better deals with those who have to leave right away.

@MelancholyUnicorn My husband said to request it with your detailer. Not sure if you can do that with your first duty station but I guess you can try. If not request it when your time is up at your first command and you might get it then. Good luck!

@DutyInJapan Thank you! We are here now and we LOVE it! Two days ago we moved into one of these apartments on the main Yokosuka base and our view of the Tokyo Bay is amazing! We could not be happier with the unit!
