Showing a few different techniques as I take you with me for another art journal journey. If you find inspiration feel free to post a video response with any of your journal pages I'd love to see them.

Some techniques to try...

While your gesso is still wet create patterns with your brush or even the back of your brush, they will come out as you layer on top of the dry gesso.

Ink - remember in kindergarten when we got to blow paint around with a straw? Why not add that to a page!

Most importantly HAVE FUN!! =D

Happy creating, I hope you enjoyed.

  • This is an amazing page. Thank you for sharing it with us. I remember doing the ink technique back in school. I've just been inspired to do it again! I hope you will post many more videos like this 1!

  • I'm so sorry it has taken me so long to reply to this, between being sick and youtube *glare* not always tellling me there's a comment I'm just getting to this. Thank you so much for the compliments and hopefully now that I am on the mend I can get more vids up and do more art in general! I miss it! I hope you will share your work one day and have a wonderful and creative day!

  • That was a great video. I learned so much just watching you. It gave me a lot of ideas. Hope you are not feeling as overwhelmed now. Thanks for posting this it makes me want to create something. thank you thank you

  • Oh thank you so much! I'm so happy to hear it sparked inspiration for you!!! Nope, not so overwhelmed now, well not for the same reasons lol! I hope you have a beautifully inspired day!

  • okay, What Did you First lay down on the paper? was it GessO?? Then What type of Pastels did yu Use? and Was that Water based Ink? Or In the bottle I did not see it Clearly. Very Nice, It makes me want to do that Too. ARtistichicana

  • Yay! So glad to hear it inspires you to want to do it! *happy dance* Ok, yes the first layer was gesso and I used my brush to create texture in it while still wet (it will show up through the other layers as you go). I used Portfolio water soluable oil pastels. It was a bottle of Dr. Martins Bombay india ink that lucky for messy me has a dropper in the lid! lol. Thank you so much for watching, I can't wait to see what you create! Feel free to give a shout anytime you have questions. =D

  • Love the technique..however all the video editing made it hard to focus on what you were doing ...couldn't focus into the details.

  • @That70sHeidi Look how old this vid is you idiot, it's before it became google-tube and they screwed up the quality of all the old vid but you were probably still in diapers when that happened. Go watch Bambi and learn the lesson about if you can't say anything nice stfu!

  • Well done. Very emotional piece. Hope you are feeling better soon!

  • @shuttergirlUK It's a stiff grid base used for rug hooking. You can find it by the yard at any fabric store in the specialty fabrics area - or just ask someone who works there.

  • Your process is amazing. I hope it was therapeutic for you. I found it inspiring. I love art journalling as well and will definitely try laying out some gesso on my pages and experimenting with pastels after watching this. Thank you!

  • Can anyone tell me what the white grid like thing is made of, and what its called (that you use as a stencil)??? :/

  • I enjoyed watching you create your page, but found the fade ins and the kaleidoscope effect somewhat bothersome, but really enjoyed how the page came together. I sure can understand the feeling of being overwhelmed!

  • LOVE IT

  • are you seriously kidding with the transitions and effects?! A simple blur in/out would have sufficed, especially as many as there were. Jeez. I can't even tell what's going on because it keeps fracturing and rainbowing and fracturing again.

  • I wish i had the patience to do an Art Journal like this lol

  • @arttxcentrix checkout a book called "The artist's way" very encouraging.
