If this new filtering plan goes through and turns Australia into China, I'm f-ing out of there! I have to put up with China's internet censorship when I'm not at uni already, I don't want to deal with it year round.

Filtration - in PUBLIC education has little parity with filtration in private - yet both are currently guided by the same legal requirements. Policy, especially big policy assumes implementation with reason and logic, but at least half-aware bureaucrats. It is a decade since Howard did the no porn, gambling deal with Harrodine over GST. This is not a logical argument -- it is political -- beyond media -- religious right etc. Of course the filter is beatable. I wonder if the Dr can build a VPN?

Use proxies / VPS with strong encryption.
Your 'filter' has just become utterly useless.
Wake up sheeple, you can't block information in this modern age.
It might be that we throw away our freedoms to have our beloved notion of safety, while information itself will always and ever WANT to be free.

I would have to agree with her last comment. Devote more resources to protect against child abuse instead of implementing this stupidly flawed system. It's quite obvious the government has NOT thought this through.

These idiots SERIOUSLY need to shutup. I can understand filtering out child porn, beastiliaty, but you can't censor the worlds oldest profession. It will keep chugging harder no matter how hard you try to block it. Incitement to commit a crime? Here we have freedom of speech, Graphic violence?Your seriously going to block that?This is just pure idiocy. Anyone with a brain could overcome these filters.I should know i know people exactly like that, who do things that aren't exactly legal. Idiots.
Good to see someone has their head screwed on. The government should listen to academics such as this.
The filter can be easily bypassed with things like Hotspot Shield and TOR/Vidalia.

@yunawind
The government doesn't like to listen to academics when they have their own agenda to push through!
