  • The british built Colossus, the world's first programmable electronic computer in 1942. Also check out Alan Turing who is often considered to be the father of modern computer science, british again, and lets not forget Charles babbage, but i guess you are all taught history through the american books!

  • Please don't beat me up on this. I just wanted to add some history to this post. My uncle (who recently died at 92) worked on some of the first computers ever built back in the day.

  • Some of the truth is that a french loom was actually the "first" true binary computer. It used punched out cards to carry out a set of instructions to complete a task. One of them is located at Shelburne Museum in Burlington VT. Only 2 are known to still exist. The 2nd "computer" was the player piano. This thing did much of the same as the loom mentioned above. 1's and 0's - on's and off's. Remember the old punch cards? Same type of "digital" communication to machines.
