"Many times with necrosis we end up replacing the hip." Doctor Thomas P. Sculco, Surgeon-in-Chief at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, speaks about the nature of avascular necrosis and a common way to treat it.
Hi I just found out 3 days ago that my son who is 7 years old has avascular necrosis. I am so scared and I don't know how to handle this what do they do for someone who is so young. What causes this?
I'm really scared. It's like they Nvr told me about this because I have Sickle cell. I think the docters should have told me this. I'm 15 I don't want a Hip replacement. And if I might have to get it. Will I be able to play sports? I pray every night that God will Heal my hip. I can deal with the sickle cell cause I'm taking pills that help that now. There are people who are perfectly normal and yet they're doing all kinds of drugs, Killing ect. Life...I just don't get it. Please god. Heal me..
@634381Moon. Had my surgery on the 15th dember and all has went well. now having no pain in my hip area. unfortunatley my opp wasnt streight forward my surgeon extended my femur by approx 2 inches so i am not allowed to walk on my leg for 6 weeks. so only a couple more days 2 go now. but they only problem that i am now having is with nerve damage. since the opp i am having a sensation of pins and needles in my foot and sometimes it feels like it is burning. but it is treatble and will go in time
@JUMBILI4193 hi ..how have you been after the surgery..my husb. is also suffering with avn and im so worried with the process..can you share some of ur personall experience with us..thanks
i am 25 and i am having a full hip replacement tommorow after 9years ago being diagnosed with avascular necrosis. i had pain in my groin for 2months and went in2 hospital when the head of the femur collapsed. i have had 2 pins in my hip holding the head in place ever since. the pain is now so bad i am struggling to anything. My surgeons hav discribed the original xrays from when i did this as looking like a car crash victim. hopefully tommorow my life starts again.
