This piece of music is dedicated to Joseph Bailly, born Honore Gratien Joseph Bailly de Messein on 7 April 1774 in Verchères, Quebec. Joe was one of the first fur traders in Northern Indiana, and assisted in the transition from British colonialism to the westward expansion in the United States.

I really became interested in Joseph Bailly during a summer trip to Indiana Dunes with my family back in 2008. During a small excursion, which I came upon at the last minute, I took my wife and son to a historic homestead. I really only new that it contained some interesting history and that there still existing some of the original buildings...I had no idea who Joseph Bailly was or that this homestead was named after him. However, after visiting a restored home my two-year-old son repeatedly called for somebody named "joe" and was running around the porch as if he was playing with another person. My son then knocked on the door and asked this "Joe" to open the door and let us inside. It was then that we went to the visitor center and learned that the place was once owned by Joseph Bailly.

Since this time I have taken a keen interest in the history of Joseph Bailly, and also have developed a broader perspective on reality. Believe the story, or not, the event, at least, brought about this music.

Scott "MD" Mapes video taped this footage--more of his videos can be found on YouTube at skovol007.
