http://revolutioninchrist.com Pastor Jay Peters teaching an overview of the emergent church at Christian Life College. Includes actual video and audio clips of the most well known leaders in the emergent movement.
From his sarcastic and demeaning tone, Tony Jones is obviously mocking his own conversion after a youth camp cross talk, where he felt (or has been deceived into thinking) that he was manipulated by a bunch of adults into a confession of belief. Well, gee whiz Tony...looks like you're trying to manipulate people into a Confession of Doubt - care to note the irony? Especially, when he then goes on to describe how anyone who doesn't doubt like him is just a dumb sheep. God have mercy on you.
So...Doug Pagitt doesn't want to "reach into the past", but his beliefs are dominated by existing heresies and elements of "another gospel which is really no gospel at all" that have been around for thousands of years...long before America was a country...English was a language or little Doug Pagitt existed. You can stand on the shoulders of giant Orthodoxies or you can stand on the shoulders of giant Heresies. Hopefully, his eyes will be opened (by God) that he has chosen the latter path.
I don't think that the Apostle Paul would have considered himself a "Christian". For the first 100 years or so after Christ's resurrection, believers referred to living Christs call as "The Way".
Maybe we should gear ourselves toward making it a way of life again, not just another intellectual pursuit.
His breath created all we know and understand, yet some act as though they fully understand the total Truth contained in the Bible.
This is sweet music to my ears. Love love love this! Preach it!
