I set up a Plexiglas rear projection screen, and bowed it for a curved screen effect. It is quite hard to keep it bowed, so it is being sandwiched between two very heavy stand-up arcade machines. The result of this disorienting 120" image is amazing. You sit in the middle and the sides almost curve out of your perspective view. This makes for a very surreal driving cockpit experience! This is done with a rear projection mylar film mirror, and an Epson 7500ub projector with frame interpolation set on high. I show the 300zx in its 1080p glory and replay my run on the Nürburgring.

  • I have a full physical Boeing 737 Flight Simulator Home cockpit that I have built in my basement. I am currently using rear projection onto a Da-Lite screen. I am impressed with what you have done with curving a piece of plexiglass and wonder if you could share information about the plexi. 1) is it a special plexiglass and where might it be obtained 2 ) thickness 3) flexiblity - degree of curve b4 distorting or breaking 4) is anything applied to the plexiglass

  • @dbday1 It was a rear projection Plexiglas screen. May be Dalite?? It was from jobsite where they were going to just throw it away. There was nothing technical about this setup. Just 4 fun. You can see, I got quite a bit of curve out of the material (video). The plexi is a bit thick. I wasn't worried that it would break. There are paints and films that you can apply to and transparent surface. I saw some online. Or just try to find a used screen. I have a 2nd one that I could sell.

  • What aspect ratio are you for that 120" widescreen effect. And how much did the projector cost you?

  • @livenletlive91 16:9. It is an Epson 7500ub. I paid a little above $2k for it when it was new with the rebate.

  • What projector are you using? What is the smaller image behind the screen? another screen? An lcd? More details please, this is fantastic.

  • @mayamanign I used a JVC High Res Hd G11u DLA-G11U Projector. This setup was rear projection with a mylar mirror, and a Plexiglas screen, that I sandwiched in between two heavy arcade machines to keep in bowed.

  • hi! i was thinking on curving my 93 inch screen projector but i though image would distort on the sides but ur image is well focused everywhere. how is it? it looks great!!

  • @XTZTwinTurbo Thank you. Might be interested in purchasing the 2nd screen you mentioned if it is the same as the one you showed on your video, depending upon the shape it is in, price and shipping to get it to me. Pls email me at dbday@rogers.com.

    Thks Bruce

  • Xtz what material is on the plexiglas itself? Thanks!

  • ROFL!! When you switched to the inside view, I was thinking "That's what little old ladies look like!" and then you reached up to grab the steering wheel - I LOLLED so hard I spat my tea all over myself!! Stop it at 6:51 and you'll see why! Awesome job btw!

  • It's like Forza. I hate it.
