FATAL doesn't deserve 30 mins. It's offensive, sure, but it does it in such a blaze and complicated manner that it's like Beavis and Butt-head grew up to be a bad accountant and a bad mathematician, did some speed, and wrote a RPG on a 76 hour bender. It's not worth reading, it's not worth anybody's time exploring, it's dead and rightfully so. It's not even worth car-crash curiosity. It's not so bad it's good. It's just crap.

@chortleneok Part of the reason we're playing is so that we'll go down in history as the fools who attempted to play one of the Unholy Trinity of role-playing games. I think FATAL is the only one you technically can play. Hybrid makes absolutely no sense, and RaHoWa is a) super racist and I wouldn't feel right even playing it as a joke, and b) they never finished the rules for combat in it anyway. This is the gaming equivalent of an encounter with Cthulhu. I'm honestly kind of scared.

cont. The game is such a mathematical clusterfuck that it would be beyond horrible even without rape rolls, gay ogres, and dead fetuses. Oh, did I mention that my character counts as being mentally retarded due to age modifiers? I spent hours pounding away at a calculator on that crapfest character, and I will play her eventually, god damn it! I will likely not survive the event, but I must try. Wish me luck, folks, or at least a quick death.

Out of morbid curiosity, I created a FATAL character last night. OH. MY. GOD. I ended up with an 8 and a half year old peasant girl/assassin, who is unhappily married. Apparently. If you're going to attempt playing that pornographic math textbook, then for God's sake use the character generation program. The book says that sexual characteristics are optional, but the generation process is still insane. Without all the sexuality and laughable insanity, the game loses its "charm".

@RyanPerson Well, that's a fair question. I had intended to go back and forth between them, to cover all the bases, but I realized what an inhuman undertaking that was, and decided to just go with the one I had already started on. I did browse through the second one but most of it, from what I could tell, was slightly modified or streamlined content from the first edition, so I didn't see any particular need to really dip into it, but if you find significant reasons to include 2e...

I absolutely wish you luck on this, and would be interested to see how and where the character goes. How the game will be played or ran, or by who, I cannot imagine.

@chortleneok I think I may be running a session of it myselt tonight as a test. I have thirty minutes to prepare. *gulp* My group does plan on filming a session eventually, but I'm not sure when that will be. We wanted to post it on youtube in order to show that some people were crazy/brave/stupid/sick enough to attempt it. I'll let you know how it goes. As for who's running it, one of my buddies volunteered. He's quite the maniac on his own; I'm not sure I want to see what it does to him.

@LastStand2010 I... am at once both disturbed and fascinated, if this truly proceeds. This is intrepid, and at the same time, I'm pretty sure, illegal in 13 states. You'll need to do a transcript or highlight or something and have your own article or video or mp3 log of the session for the sake of posterity!

It is definitely offensive in places, and to some people more than others, and in general to the human race, and game designers and good taste in general, but yes, it really is more laughable than threatening, though if one were to be meeting Byron Hall, having this first to look through would be sure to put one on his or her guard.
