They put their guard down as bait. So the other person would kick. This kind of sparring is more about counter attacking. If you notice, as soon as one person does something, the other reacts. Fists are allowed, but not used because they are really easy to counter kick if you are not already on the inside.

question:You're not allowed to hit with the fists? i mean at all?I mean i know taekwondo it's all about the legs but still no fists? at all? :\.....and that's why they are kicked in the head so often bcz they don't keep their guard at all

Are low spinning heel kicks, low spinning hook kicks and other low kick sweeping techniques illegal in the TKD olympics? I'm surprised, with all the high kicking, nobody even tries to execute anything of the sort in this clip.

my sport is taekwondo too and i like sparring but HATE poomsae, and i like this 'cuz it is something action

@gargamel6699 Yeah, but if the JJ fighter can only use the moves the way he learnt them and not in a real situation, and the TKD fighter actually knows how to apply the moves then technically the TKD fighter would win. It's not about WHAT martial art you fight with, it's about HOW you use it.
