It's because a pull off gives a different sound. Allan Holdsworth even noticed this. He thought it to sound like a "meow" sound. So I understand what Marshall Harrison mean. You really have to hear yourself play it to understand it. Plus if you hear other instrument play legato, they sound different, no change in tone at all.

  • LIE

  • i don't understand. marshall harrison in his instructional video played some petrucci style legato, then sald, but this style is not very good, its not even legato, its something else. heres real legato, and preceeded to play allan holdsworth, whom i've hung out with on several occasions.

  • sounds like "Lie" to me too!

  • shame he doent play legato much anymore

  • I can't help but think of Morgenstimmung at 02:18.

  • I think the real question here is how many notes does he manage to squeeze into 8 seconds...
