Sorry mate, but Van Buren was no abolitionist. In fact, the reason why Polk got the nomination was because he clained to be a staunch supported of Van Buren, who succeeded Jackson. Polk owned slaves & had to present himself as a paternalist who had slaves forced upon him instead of the happy to force labourers to slave all day.
