This song [and The Carpenters] were laugh out loud back in the day. While I always appreciated a good melody this was just too anaemic. Catchy as it was clevery written, it just provoked unintentional humour.
BUT not for the first time in my lifetime, a song that is corny/cheezy by preppy popsters becomes something else in the hands of a true artist.
