In this video one can clearly see the difference between an ejection that only uses power cartridges (as in the older ejection seats) and a "new generation" seat that uses booster rockets as well. Notice how the seat separates from the dummy before impact with the rocket assissted ejection. The seat will typically stay attached to the pilot above 10 000ft to provide oxygen, and then automatically detach and fall away when the pilot descends below that altitude.

The seat in the Mirage F1 that inadvertently ejected Maj Aurhur Piercy at AFB Rundu in the 80's (read "Vlamgat" by Gen Dick Lord), did not have rockets to assist the ejection, as was normal for that generation of ejection seats. Those ejection seats required a specific forward speed (typically 60 knots), as well as a minimum altitude for a safe ejection.

The Astra, Hawk Mk120 and Gripen aircraft all are equipped with rocket assisted Martin Baker Mk10 ejection seats, for which you don't need any forward speed or altitude ("Zero-Zero" ejection seats).

  • At 0:09 I had to laugh: The chute bloats after hitting the ground. Great slapstick.

  • first chair reminds me of our Polish type: SK-1 min height is a 250 meters. second seat Martin Baker is probably the older generation have any Q9 or Q10 - zero - zero. At 0:14 fires a second seat, after 7 seconds of opening his parachute canopy. Currently, the best seat in my opinion it is ZVEZDA K36 D: if it is to run a 0:14 a 0:17 pilot fell in construction already in full parachute. Requires only 3 seconds needs K36 to full eject and open ,

  • Hahahaha

  • wtf the canopy doesn't blow away...? and nice goatee

  • lol how they draw a goat-tee on the dummy face!!!

  • @s25007 Nor wants any pilot. Usually, after 2 ejections you get grounded, for medical reasons, even if it's not your fault.

  • You'd have to be a dummy to volunteer for this... lol

  • GOOOOOSEEE

  • This is made in South Africa. drie twee een

  • Ejection systems vary with time and model aircraft. In the A7/A-B's that I worked on, the seat cracked the canopy and then you went through it. And if you eject three times, your aviation career is over due to stress on the spine.

  • @MadTarnsman Actually there is a delay built in so that the canopy has time to clear the aircraft. If for some reason the canopy doesn't leave the jet then yse the seat will go thru it.
