What is so misleading about the title? The horse is not wearing hoof boots but the video is sponsored by Renegade brand Hoof Boots. We are firstly advocates of the barefooted lifestyle which includes riding barefooted as much as possible. The video is meant to show the barefoot performance possible with proper diet, turnout and hoof conditioning. Hoof boots are of course complimentary equipment for those who don't have the means to condition the hooves as tough as Halim's.

You're so lucky you have a place like this in which to train. Most of our situations do not include rocky terrain, nor do most pasture owners place rock paths throughout their pasture system in order to help the horses feet toughen up. A horse going from mostly soft footing to rocky footing will definitely be ouchy but a horse that has been given the daily opportunty of riding on rocky terrain, or having to use a rock path to get to and from their water, paddock areas or barn will benefit a lot.

@Pasos4me Yes, you correct. A horse is sound upon the average of the footing upon which they live. As you also pointed out, much can be done to provide means of hoof conditioning while not out on the trail. During the time period of this video, Halim was living in a paddock measureing 45'X125'. The footing was a firm base with 1 1/4 inches of pea gravel with manure cleaned daily. My trimmig strategy is ultra conservative with no sole removed in the front half of the hoof.
