McCain Takes Credit For GI Bill He Opposed

I'm happy to tell you that we probably agreed to an increase in educational benefits for our veterans that not only gives them that gives them an increase in their educational benefits, but if they stay in for a certain amount of time than they can transfer those educational benefits to their spouses and or children. That's a very important aspect I think of incentivizing people of staying in the military.

weezywee was right. webb introduced the bill, and mccain campaigned against it. as an active duty marine at the time, i was flabbergasted that mccain would campaign against it. the main argument that i recall mccain employ was that better GI bill bennies would "hurt retention rates." like i said. flabber. gasted.

Please link the vote count of the bill which shows McCain voting yes on the package that passed and Obama voted no. If it isn't HR 2642 which was the only GI Bill that I could find in the records, maybe you know of something the rest of the world doesn't? References please?

Obama voted yes to the one that McCain opposed, Obama voted NO on the one that passed. That is the one McCain is talking about in this video.

The first GI Bill that went before the Senate wasn't much more than the one that was being used 20 years ago, that's why McCain opposed it, and of course the Democrats like Obama didn't see a problem with it. McCain has two of his own in the Military right now.
