Reno SCCA Pace Car Incident

This is what happens when the pace car driver has never driven the course before. As seen from the in-car camera from my pole starting spot.

At about 1:40 in, notice how the pace car gets a huge lead on me... that's because the corner coming up is an awful off-camber, decreasing radius right, and I'm slowing for it... the pace car, not so much.

I was in awe watching this happen in front of me. The driver was okay, but the car was hammered. We had to hot-pit for 30 minutes while a front-end-loader went up on the hill to put the k-wall back.

I'm not one to know much at all about track driving, though it is very interesting, but while you were behind the pace car... Why were you doing the swerves back and forth? Were you warming up the tires or were you just bored?

Cleaning and warming the tires. Though it doesn't help all that much at those speeds... it still takes another half lap o so at full speed for the tires to really get up to temperature...

But I was having oil issues back then and could only get about 2 laps out of the car at full speed before my catch cans filled up, so I needed to get the tires as warm as possible as soon as possible.

See they call these things SUV's but there just as bad as car. crossovers are not suv's just call them station wagons. would hat happen to a normal suv off road? no but it would hppen to a station wagon

A "normal SUV" would have flown off the track much sooner and faster for lack of handling, then smashed through the wall due to the heavier weight, then rolled down the hill due to the high center of gravity. The problem here was not "off road handling" it was "entering a corner too fast".

Do you believe anything with big tires has infinite traction on dirt because the laws of physics don't apply to them? I think I've passed you in my car while your "normal" SUV was stuffed in a snow bank.
