AS THE "first pet" of the Clinton era, Socks, the White House cat, allowed "chilly" Hillary Clinton to show a caring, maternal side as well as bringing joy to her daughter, Chelsea.
So where is Socks today? Once the presidency was over, there was no room for Socks any more. After years of loyal service at the White House, the black and white cat was dumped on Betty Currie, Bill Clinton's personal secretary, who also had an embarrassing clean-up role in the saga of his relationship with the intern Monica Lewinsky.

@AnneLiesveld Oh I see Socks was put down. never mind. I am guessing that if Socks was that old though there was more than him being "not young or spritely to Curie making that decision." Plus when you realize she basically cared for him for almost 10 years after the fact and never gave him up again is cool

@TheCatJoker I am thinking socks basically died of cancer if I remember correctly and I heard that Buddy (dog) died of a car-wreck. from the online description it sounds like buddy ran into street and sec. service couldn't get him fast enough out of harm's way.

I'm so sick of hearing about animal friends being "put down"--and then the owner always wants sympathy because the animal friend "died." Being old or ill is not a capital crime. Do it to your grandma and you go to prison.

I bought a cat in 1993 and named his socks because not only did he look like The First Cat, but Clinton's cat was very popular that year. I'm happy to report that he is now 15, and has brought alot of happiness to my families life.
