Why Kirk Hammett wraps tape around his hand

Many of you people want to know why Kirk has tape wrapped around his picking hand every night.Well here is the answer from Kirk himself.

Here is another quote that explains where he explains it in more detail:

"It's there to stop me from cutting myself.If your hands are anything like mine,you'll have some wrinkle lines on the side of your hand just below your little finger.Due to my aggressive playing style and all the muting I do,when we're on tour my right hand gets a pretty good beating and those wrinkles eventually cut open and start bleeding.The tape is just there to help prevent that from happening because it's pretty painful,especially if a string gets in there once my hand get's cut." - Kirk Hammett
