Domenico Scarlatti - Sonata in F minor - K.386 / L.171 (played by Akin Unver)

I have been working on an ambitious project since September: play my absolute favorite Scarlatti sonata K. 386 on the chapman stick. The problem was, the piece is already sufficiently difficult on the harpsichord and playing it on the stick would require a lot of time and effort.

Nonetheless, I stopped all other music projects I was working on and began arranging the piece for the stick; it took about 3 months I think to play it OK at a very slow tempo. January onwards I began stepping up the tempo to be able to play it OK at its presto tempo.

Can I ask how you develop the two hand independence?

Hello,

I play pieces like these to develop two hand independence. I taught classical guitar for a long time and discovered that it is better to get students to play actual pieces rather than exercises. If a student is stuck at a particular part of a piece then s(he) should practice that segment, rather than practicing a secondary exercise. That was my approach.

In this video as well, I only practiced the sonata and spent extra time at parts that are difficult. No secondary exercises :)
