Born Sam John Hopkins (March 15, 1912 -- January 30, 1982)

Sam Hopkins was a Texas country bluesman of the highest caliber whose career began in the 1920s and stretched all the way into the 1980s. Along the way, Hopkins watched the genre change remarkably, but he never appreciably altered his mournful Lone Star sound, which translated onto both acoustic and electric guitar. Hopkins' nimble dexterity made intricate boogie riffs seem easy, and his fascinating penchant for improvising lyrics to fit whatever situation might arise made him a beloved blues troubadour.

This is a short 10 mins documentary about Lightnin Hopkins made by me. All the info on this video i have simply googled from different sites and mixed them as good biography as possible. I hope you like this, it dont look like much since there is only audio and pictures on thsi video but making this video took me 2 days. My english skills are not too good and i that's why i have added subtitles on this like i always do for my own videos, to make it easier understand. Even if you understand what im talking on the video it's human brain basics that we learn/understand better if we hear but also read what we hear.

  • That's great !! you really did your research and it has come out great. I will try to make an mp3 of your text and send it to you. See if you can use it. I can't promise when, but honestly I will try my best. Keep up the good work !! The world needs more Lightning Hopkins !!! peace, Jay

  • @mrjaymichealharden sure! :) my e-mail is mevaan2008@hotmail.com

  • Great stuff ! Where'd you get the information ??

I could help you out with the narration, you got anymore on here ? Let me know wussup....

  • @mrjaymichealharden Hey, yes i'd like to have some help with the narration. For a finnish dude my english spelling is not even bad and it has improved A LOT after recording this :D But i'd like to have someone else doing the narration if you have a better voice and better spelling for this we could work it out together! im also "poor with too much free time" so i like to do this kind of things.

  • @mrjaymichealharden and i got all the information trough searching the web, used about 15 different sites to get all the information then wrote it clean my own way and later my friends read it trough to see if everything is ok and it seems to be pretty well done.. before this i made same type of thing about LeadBelly it's here too if u wanna check it!

  • Great piece- wrong narrator

  • @Bruce88keys But im not spanish :D cant do that ether... hmm, since these documentaries made by me are kinda hard to understand becouse of my speech, and i cant get anyone who speaks english better to help me with these... should i just delete these and try to make new ones, and if i talk slower and practise before recording it would it be any better? :o

  • I remember reading about Sam in old books as a kid. Lies. It was mostly lies. He was NOT a mean ex-con. He had been arrested (for nothing serious at all!!) by white southern cops. They would just harass him & pick him up and ,,,i guess the shackles rumor may have been true. I dunno...I read he had scars on his legs. I sure hope not. Poor sweet Sam. He was a good fella. Never a mean, crooked man. Love him so dearly.

  • @mrjaymichealharden you can find a lot of this info on wikipedia And Lightnin talks about it. Its on YT. But,,,this dude here.....he makes it great ! Puts it all together and even gives details i havent read about. Little things.....ages....times.....areas....etc. Lovely. Thank you Sambobla for this.....and I often wondered if he was illiterate or not. I guess his song "No Education" was very true eh? Sweet Sam. He is the one who stays with me. In my heart. Always. Everyday.

  • @sambobla @sambobla No problem. Your English is very good - much better than my Finnish! Cheers to you, sir.
