Hill Country Holiday

The Collier Allcounty High School Honor band playing Hill Country Holiday. Each member had to audition/ compete against others to win a spot and earn the tittle as one of the best in the county for 09'. 3 Days, and a total of 15hours of practice, the most being around 7 hours straight. This was hard work made into something great.

I play Bari Sax. I had to audition against 2 seniors for my chair (only one chair). I am a Freshman...aha. =)

This is the song that my high school band is playing this year as well. But I do not see how the people competed to be "one of the best in the country" because many schools do this, mine just did it in january. But this was a very nice performance by these people so congratulations to everyone who participated in it!

It says county not country. And the "competition" part was auditions. Anyone in the County could try but only the best get in. Little empty room, 2 chairs a stand, a table and one judge. we only get 15 hours to learn the 3 songs.

This wasn't even that great of a performance, there are many parts where the band goes off track. Our band has played this and we were basically sight reading it.

I actually am a music major at Wayne State University, thank you very much.

I also performed this in high school at the National Adjudicator's invitational.

So yeah....music major + superior rating at nationals + playing it before = yes I know what I'm talking about, and I do appreciate this piece of music, just not how it was performed. It did not reach it's full potential, and there were a number of weak spots.
