Les Papillons (Theophile Gautier)

The snow-white butterflies
Float in swarms over the sea;
Beautiful white butterflies, when may I
Take the blue road of the sky?

Do you know, o beauty of beauties,
My dancing girl with eyes of jade
If they would lend me their wings,
Tell me, do you know where I would go?
Without taking one kiss to the roses
Across valleys and woods
I would go to your half-closed lips,
Flower of my soul, and there I would die.

L'Aveu (Villiers de LIsle Adam)

I have lost the woods, the meadows,
And the fresh Aprils of the past.
Give me your lips, their breath
It will the be the breath of the woods.

I have lost the morose oceans,
Its grief, its billows, its echoes,
Tell me what you will,
It will be the clamor of the waves.

A heavy and noble sadness
My brow dreaming of vanishing rays
Oh! Hide me in your pale bosom!
It will be the calm of the night.

Le Colibri (Laconte de Lisle)

The green hummingbird, king of the hills, seeing the dew and the bright sun
Shine in his nest woven of fine glass
Like a fresh ray escapes into the air.

He hurries and flies to the neighboring springs where the reeds make the sound of the sea, where the hibiscus of heavenly scent, unfolds and brings a humid light to the heart.

Towards the golden flower, he descends, alights, and drinks so much love from the rosy cup
That he dies, not knowing if he could drain it!
On your lips pure, o my beloved,
My soul likewise wouldve wanted to die, on your first kiss, that has perfumed it.
