The streets of Madrid leading to Plaza de Cibeles were filled with pilgrims from every corner of the world. This report by SIGNIS VJ -- Lawrence Njoroge Mberi (Kenya) captures the excitement as hundreds of thousands of people both young and old waited anxiously for Pope Benedict XVI.

Script:
At times when situations got you feeling alone / And all you wish for is someone to lift you from the fall, / Hello, someone to pick and answer your call, / Help you up and place you standing strong and tall, / The message is to avoid temptations that leave us lame,
/ Ignore the evil one, who is always there to blame,
/ Accept Christ and our lives will never be the same,
/ He came and though a King didn't claim fame,
/ He died so that we could live, let His fire blaze -- let Him fill your life with His flames.

Pope Benedict XVI's message and prayer for the young at the World Youth Day 2011 held in Madrid is this, "may the flame of Christ's love burn always bright in your heart." He urged the pilgrims from all the five continents to welcome the words of Jesus and put them into practice.

The Holy Father said the Master who speaks teaches, not just something learned from others, but that which he himself is, the only one who truly knows the path of man towards God, because he is the one who opened it up for us.

Jesus made the path so that people might have an authentic live, which is always worth living in every circumstance, and not even death can destroy. The Pope called out to the pilgrims, "Listen closely to the words of the Lord, so that it becomes for you the "spirit and life".

Noting the weeklong celebration, he said the youths should use these days to know Christ better and be rooted in Him.

"God is looking for a responsible interlocutor, someone who can dialogue with him and love Him."

Announcing Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as the next World Youth Day meeting point, Pope Benedict closed the celebration advising the pilgrims to be prudent and wise, and build their lives upon the firm foundation which is Christ.

So young people, 'Desire to inspire when you are on fire before you expire'.
