This is a rough demo of this song I wrote from the early 1990's. It is a subject that needs to be addressed. To have anyone homeless in a civilized society like the U.S.A. is shameful. It should not be.
Without A Home
words and music by Paul Bradford
I hope you never know the pain of living on the street
with rags on your back, newspapers on your feet
not knowing if you're gonna' eat or where you're gonna' sleep
and nothing left but memories of what was to keep
I saw a lonely woman with sadness in her eyes
lines of heartache in her face and no tears left to cry
the life she had just fell apart and busted at the seams
and now she sleeps among the trash on the street of broken dreams
chorus: (she was somebody's baby once, somebody's wife
she had some bad breaks and she led a rough life
now she walks the streets all day cold and alone
without any lovin', and left without a home )
as I walked by in a rush the woman's eyes met mine
I knew there was a person there once beautiful and kind
I offered her some change and she looked up and smiled wide
"I may not have alot" she said, "but I still have my pride"
(repeat chorus)
the sight of her just made me feel so sad
I asked her how it got to be this way
she said it didn't pay to think about what could have been yesterday
the other day I walked on by the place where she would be
someone said she passed away, I said she was set free
a note was found clutched in her hand, and her words were few
I pray it isn't so, but one day this could be you
she was somebody's baby once, somebody's wife
she had some bad breaks and she led a rough life
she doesn't have to walk the streets cold and alone
without any lovin', and left without a home
and left without a home
left without a home

Huh!! found it on the recording site! Paul - This song needs to be sent to every republican ( and some democrats - hell all politicians!) and they need to be forced to listen to it over and over (maybe throw some acid in their coffee) until they FINALLY get it! November 27th all Unemplay. extensions run out and there cold be close to 50,000,000 - yep fifty million) people without a pot to piss in! Something wrong when they say the Unemployment stands at 9.6% it is REALLY closer to 25%!!!

Those pictures tell it all.
It's too bad that Canada and the US can't do something more to help the misfortunate better than what we do today.
We could all be in that same boat someday even though we pay taxes to the hilt hopefully to prevent this stuff!
If we could divert some of our tax money to our people instead of WAR we would be better off.

Excellent Paul! Your song and video are powerful and thought provoking! It's so hard to believe poverty and hunger haven't been eliminated in this world! Great song and well done! ... FrAnK (★★★★★)

Great work Paul!! If we took care of the mentally challenged and drug addicted homeless, it would help this situation tremendously. 5*****
