CHECK OUT THE NIGHT VERSION IN MY SECOND VIDEO~~~~~~The American Diner can be traced back as far as the late 1800s. All night coffee shops and eateries started really popping up in the early 1900s. By the 1920s and 1930s, the more elaborate glass and stainless steel look started to dominate Roadside America. Where ever you traveled, and whether it was for a mere snack or a full meal, you could find some sort of classy steel front joint to dine in. Who can forget that line "Betty, Please!" from the Lavern & Shirley diner skit, or "Kiss My Grits" from Alice? Any way you look at it, the Diner is a true American legend and a treasured icon. Diners served up millions of cups of coffee, orders of eggs, bacon and hash browns, as well as slices of home-made apple pie. I can't imagine how many burgers, fries and Cokes they have served. When we met with buddies or just needed to sit and think, these old friends got us through a lotta hard times, such as World War II. Always in the background, they were there for us in our best of days and worst of days. I was not born yet, so I missed that grand era. But I can see how nice it must have been back in the days of yesteryear. To celebrate that era of the breathtaking appearance of these little roadside beauties, I made this video. Here we see what can be done with a simple and very quick driving shot that ordinarily would seem like nothing special. However, after editing and slowing it down to 1/2 speed, adding fancy titles and some nifty 1930 era music, we get a nice look at a retro piece of Americana. This is a Retro-Diner, which is an authentic replica of an actual original design from back in the day. The retros have been popping up in Maryland and do well with customers who love nostalgia. ENJOY!!!!
Beautiful HD video with music that doubles its appeal.

Great video, One of the reasons I love to drive the old US Routes is to find places like these. Went to one recently on MD Rte 3 in Crofton. So much to choose from - takes a half hour to decide what to order. A shame the local Silver Diner does not fit the mold as much as it may try.

I'm glad you liked it. There used to be many little places along US 1 towards Baltimore. I recall White Tower in Riverdale by the old Citizen's Bank and Leland Hospital. Remember Little Tavern in Silver Spring and Howard Johnson's up in College Park? These days, even Big Boy and Hot Shoppes are gone. Before I was born, my Mom worked at the old Hot Shoppes next to Fields Buick in Hyattsville. Those were the days!

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. Yep, there was a show that went through Pennsylvania and found many original diners to eat at. There are quite a few "originals" still around the USA. I also miss those smaller version joints like "White Tower, White Castle and our WashDC area Little Tavern Shops." I think White Castle still exists some places.
