Cynthia plays the wire strung harp of the Islands and Highlands of Scotland and Ireland called the Clarsach. This traditional tune is just as relevant today as it was past for Scotland's 'Finest'

  • Very nice....she is very nice wire strung player..

its a shame that she is not actualy playing it.

    nice video

  • Dear Euphorbia74, Keep an eye on my channel. I'm launching another vid very soon and have plans to show you some live stuff! Including some music from her new Christmas Carol book you might be interested in. Thanks!

  • Hi - intrigued - what's the other instrument playing along with the harp before the percussion comes in?

I love the sound of the wire-strung - this one sounds particularly rich.

  • Good question; rosewood marimba of all things! For the session, we had envisioned a British Regiment somewhere in the Orient, thus the finger cymbals and huge gong at the end. But pairing the marimba was a fluke... and it really worked out with the wire-strung and added an exotic element. And it is a dickens to mic the wire harps.. They don't kick out a lot of sound so a good microphone is a must. Thanks for asking!

  • I don't know exactly what is but the sound of this harp have something specialy that touches mee deep in my soul. Perhaps is tha sound close to long distance church bells. But its sound invites me to dream a better world and a better life to all people. Sometimes listenning it I don't know why but it makes me cry.

  • Beautifully played and artfully filmed. It was a real pleasure to watch this video!

  • Are you related to a Debra Cathcart ? Because one of my teacherss last name is Cathcart

  • @evemctelenn It is NOT a military tune - it was first played on the uillean pipes, collected by Bunting in the early 1800s. I've always felt it to be evocative of the gentle green hilly landscape of Ireland, and find it obscene to hijack it for militarism.

  • Éireann go Brách

  • Beautiful I think every garden should have a Cynthia playing for them so relaxing and peaceful.. I think the family of poor Jamie would be pleased you mentioned him in the vid.

  • Bhain mé sult mor as.

    EIRINN GO BRATH !

  • very nice and played with true feelings

  • in guess the angels must sing something like this celtic harp in God's face

  • I'm glad you find this little video inspiring! I look forward to hearing you play some day!

You are right, this is the Rose harp. Glad you liked the drums, that's my husband Eric playing them. :-)
