Compatible devices should be: ezcap, Hama nano & Terratec NOXON (get the first two as it has a better tuner - the Elonics 4000, same as FUNcube Dongle, broadest frequency range: 64-1700 MHz).

My ExtIO plugin also supports all USRPs, the FUNcube Dongle and network streaming using BorIP (see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2PaSe...). You can also send the received baseband data over the network to GNU Radio using the UDP Source block.

Ok, thanks. Do you know where I can find an HCL for RTL2832 devices for Linux? I don't see anything on the gr-baz wiki.

The reddit page is used as the reference. Also, please see the RTL2832U page on my wiki (linked from many of the other pages, links to reddit and many other resources). There is no 'HCL' as such with regards to gr-baz. It's just a matter of whether the device contains a RTL2832U chip. If so, it will either be automatically detected, or requires you to manually type in the USB VID/PID. I can update the source if you wish send me a missing device ID.

You can install GNU Radio first, and then install gr-baz (please see my wiki, link in the video description) so you can run the BorIP Server (dealt with in another video). Then you may use HDSDR (under Wine) with the dongle as you would on Windows!

Hi: I have an EzCap, almost the same, RTL2832 but different tuner. I've been using SDRSharp. Did you say 32MHz bandwidth? Sharp just goes up to 3.something... With that, the supplied Presto PVR doesn't receive any of the OTA DTV here in the states, unless sigs are too weak. Sharp gets it down to 20 something MHz, though.

HDSDR was a PITA to get working for me. I prefer the less pretty, but easier to get going and use, SDR# (SDRSharp) I finally got HDSDR working with the dongle and it was offset by nearly 100Mhz. I ended-up having to uninstall all the driver stuff and start with Zadig again to get SDR# working.  Pretty is nice, I'll stick with what works for me.

It's DC coupling and phase noise on the I and Q, pretty typical in the cheap dongles. Just tune what you're looking for off-center of the total bandwidth.

SDR# (SDRSharp) has a function to minimize it, as well as a "shift" function to bring your VFO off the center.

HDSDR is pretty, but I've never made it work very well, I actually prefer the less-pretty SDR#.

Most amateur satellite listening is done in the ~400Mhz range, and for that you want a 70cm/440Mhz antenna.

The tuner range tops out on most of them between 1.4 and 1.7Ghz. At the bottom most are in the 50Mhz range (although I just bought one with a new chipset that goes down to 25ish Mhz). DirecTV's LNB is downconverting to 2Mhz to 2145Mhz. The dish itself is a 5Ghz dish. So if there's something in 5ghz that will downconvert into the middle of the LNB's range - maybe. But what do you want to listen to up there? It's a very tight beam so you'd need to motorize the dish. [cont]

This is amazing. And to think I was about to drop $500 on an SDR-IQ box for my FT-900. You just saved me quite a bit of money (and my wife certainly loves that too).
