This activity was recorded to support "Spinning a Yarn..." an exciting new TIE programme for key stage two (7 - 9 year olds) from The Play House that tells the story of Hans Christian Anderson's Emperor's New Clothes.

Through an exciting blend of storytelling, participation and the hands-on exploration of textile techniques, the children will gain an understanding of issues relating to human rights and global citizenship. This version of the story takes place in a world where inequality and oppression reign and where the forces of consumerism result in unjust treatment for the royal weavers.

Through the interplay of these different artforms the children will explore the age old connection between storytelling and weaving by being involved in literally spinning a yarn... textile techniques will be integrated into the main body of the story, accompanying, complementing, reinforcing and commenting on the narrative.
