I think that Sherie Renee Scott is a fabulous performer, and if this was an all original musical I would have no issues with her voice. But as it is, Pat Carroll is the original and her voice was much deeper. And there are so few great roles for 2nd altos as it is, so I'm a little irked at whoever decided to deprive them of this one by giving it to a mezzosoprano.

Don't be like that!! Thinking that everything origional is better. Faith Prince just wants to sound like the real ursula, and she is just as good as Sheree Rene Scott.

That is Sheree Renee Scott, who did fabulous in the role, in my opinion. It's funny, she said in an interview once that she would pray to God every night, hoping that he would let her scare the kids! Yes, I will say that her interpretation is a bit lighter, but I think that makes her so much fun to watch! Apparently now though, the new Ursula, Faith Prince, said she is trying to make the role much darker and sinister after she "hooks" ariel. I have not seen her performance yet so, who knows?

the musical is a lot different from the movie. The character of Ursula can be portrayed in many different ways. I love Pat Carols interpretation but Sherie brings a different, fresh, new portrayal to Ursula. It doesn't mean she is wrong its just a different perspective on the character. I think she does exceptionally well and completely stole the show.

The comment I was replying to said that Sherie was basically making a mockery out of the "real Ursula". I was being sarcastic, because there isn't a "real" Ursula, as in existent and tangible, there's only the animated one. Broadway stars who do shows that were formerly movies don't try to copy the character exactly. They try to create their own vision of what they think that character should be.
