@YaoiSama i think part of it is that he has the same hopes for Xi Mao that his mom had for him. he sees talent/potential in Xi Mao as how his mom saw those things in him.

for kids, if their natural-born talents are ignored- it's a lost opportunity. like some people i know- they had the chance to study piano as kids but were stubborn and refused to learn/practice. now they're trying to take classes, but it's much much harder.

@YaoiSama not necessarily "obsessed". it was cultivating talent. from when he was very little, everyone could see that he was a musical genius with piano. so she worked hard to give him more/better opportunities in the world through the piano. so that he wouldn't have to be stuck in a life of poverty like she was.

when parents invest in their children for 20-some years, but then the child's fate takes a different path- it's hard to process. it's not that she's obsessed, just in denial of change
