IBM technologists compare the difference in sound between IBM BladeCenter S and HP c3000, both blade solutions for small and medium businesses. The c3000 is markedly louder. There's a longer version at www.ibm.com/press/us/en/pressrelease/22413.wss

  • Havent tested C3000 but we have 5 C7000 and they are nowhere near that loud unless you degrade to cooling system, using a failed fan, removing a fan etc.

  • Who cares about the sound? We only care about the POWER CONSUMPTION. HP C3000 gives you more bang for the buck. Very modular. We can plug in Compute and/or Storage blades in one enclosure with GIGE or Infiniband or FC connectivity.

  • This is so great. When you have to go so low to compare "What a server sounds like" it is clear that what brand fails on so many other levels. Also, the sounds is only an issue for... hum, lets say 4 mins. LOL, so the HP beats IBM for 4 mins wow

  • I would *NEVER* buy hardware because it is quieter than the other. I think most intelligent beings (those who haven't been wined and dined by IBM Sales ppl), would put noise as the absolute lowest criteria in equipment selection. Reliability, Price, Value, Support, and yes, the quietness factor, in case this needs to run next to your desk... ;)

  • I have a c3000 that I built a couple months ago, only reason that fan is at 100% is because those retards do not know how to reboot the on-board administrator. If the system is shutdown unexpectedly you have to turn it back on. Then connect to the on-board administrator and reset it, as that controls fan speed as well. Then the fans go back to normal speed.

  • HAHA IBM are so scared of HP blades, they didnt give it time for the management module to come up of they did this test with the OA out, there is no way they are that loud in normal operation.

So basically what they are saying here is if you want a quite system when it starts up (are they saying you have to restart the IBM blade chassis a lot) or you are so stupid you dont plug in the OA buy IBM. Talk about old technology.

Hey IBM show us ur hotswap HDD, wats that you dont have any?

  • You're going to have to show numbers, with source, to back that up before anyone will believe you.

  • I don't trust IBM to tell the truth. Their blade sales are nowhere close to HP!

  • 1. I'll take horsepower and power management over quiet any day of the week. My computer room has a door. It works well.

    2. If the HP chassis is properly configured (which is not rocket science), the fans only kick into high gear when it is fully loaded and all nodes are running at 100% CPU (a very unlikely scenario).

    3. HP's superior performance and system management help my business more than IBM's marketing fluff.

  • what a load of BS, I went to a trade show last week and you could hardly hear the c3000even though it was fully loaded. My guess is that IBM is not playing fair and did not load the helath drivers. Teh BladeSystem S was at the same conference and looked like an old fridge on its side, HP has a much better offering in Tower version too, no wonder they have twice the market share of IBM now. On this performance how long until IBM sells this off to Lenovo too..
