Tibet is in revolution. In Washington, DC, protests against China's violent crackdowns, mass arrests, and killings escalates into the third day. Tibetans and supporters from as far as Baltimore, MD (1hr drive) and Charlottesville, VA (3hr drive) converge on the Chinese Embassy, whose walls had been splattered with "blood" overnight and painted with the words "FREE TIBET".

After one Tibetan man, Tenzing from Virginia, is arrested by police for attempting to deliver a letter to the Embassy, the crowd's frustration and determination rises. Another Tibetan man, Kunga, age 28 from Maryland, is arrested and charged with felony property destruction, accused of throwing a rock which broke an embassy window. One Tibetan woman, 8 months pregnant, is injured, reportedly by police during the arrests, and taken to the hospital for examination.

Meanwhile, the surrender deadline passes in Lhasa and Chinese troops raid Tibetan homes, arresting over 600 people.

  • This protest is stupid. GO protest in China then. I think it's pretty fucking stupid when you live in the United States and you protest for something that has nothing to do with the US and is two other nations.

  • ima tibetan in va. i was 1 of the protesters.

  • imma va tibetan :)

  • So your wariness translates to derisive Youtube comments with questionable points?

"You think Tibet was paradise before China claimed it?"

What purpose does a statement like that serve? Were your comments adding to or taking away from the overall discussion? I really think it's important to consider thoughts like this before posting things so ambiguous, unhelpful, and generally (according to you) not even indicative of your actual feelings about the subject of governmental oppression.

  • I do think that overall, the majority of the Tibetan population has benefitted from Chinese rule. I'm wary of the 'Free Tibet' movement because it centres around the Dalai Lama and the previous theocracy.

  • Right. Acknowledged. And the important part at this point is the part you wrote about "followed by a lot of oppression."

Most countries have a less-than-perfect governmental history. Most countries have required aid from other countries. Most countries would not consider that grounds for their independence to be taken away and for them to be persecuted and oppressed. And I'd be willing to bet a lot of people other than "wanky left liberals" agree with basic human rights.

  • Didn't say that, Tibet was an exploitative feudal theocracy, the majority of the population was poor, lot of things wrong with the place. The Chinese did a lot of good initially followed by a lot of oppression.

  • Good point. I guess I didn't realize that a place had to be a paradise in order for it to be considered an independent nation. I was unaware that "paradise" was a prerequisite for basic fundamental liberties and freedoms. Thanks for enlightening us all.

  • Why dont you ask the people of Tibet who want their freedom back

  • lol at these wanky left liberals...You think Tibet was paradise before China claimed it?
