Rap is a form of poetry, but not all poetry is rap. Nor is all rap good poetry.

The guys with the guitars are no poets either. They sing 'songs', not 'poems'. Just like their gibberish, the 'poems' of rappers are nothing more than 'rhymes'- mind ejaculations that rhyme. Both songs and raps tend most of the time to be extremely short minded and in raps case often an excuse to lie around and stupidly exaggerate. While jazz was a reason for black people to get accepted, rap and especially gangster rap has become one to ignore them in discomfort.

Okay, first of all poetry can consist of a variety styles and Rap is poetry. It stands for Rhyme and Poetry for crying at loud. It's just putting a beat to a poem.
