A key reason for the public sector being inferior to the private sector: Nobody takes care of anyone else's property as well as they take care of their own.

  • Surely your argument is just against large bodies with budgets than just the public sector. My father works for a company, is given a marketing budget to spend on something for someone else. He doesn't want the adverts, he doesn't keep the money. Surely the very idea of a budget is what you are arguing against.

  • @dunnace "Large bodies with budgets"...isn't that what the public sector is? My point is that spending is most effective when spent by the owner on behalf of the owner. A parent will be far more careful about choosing which school his/her child goes to than the government.

  • I'm sorry, but, first.

  • @HarryIsTheGamingGeek First time anyone has firsted me. There's a first for everything.

  • @dunnace No, the point is that any public body, large or small, will not spend money as effectively or efficiently as a private equivilent because it is not their money they're spending.

  • I've always loved this description of spending, and it's perfectly logical and true.
