chapter one. :)
Corie.
June 5th 2008
It was probably one of the heaviest downpours in the small town of California. All you could hear were the distinct sounds of rain splashing onto the vacant concrete streets of Willow Point. The only luminescence that didnt make the streets pitch black were the small numbers of streetlights that were aligned down the sidewalks every couple of feet or so. Everyone was all inside enjoying their Saturday night with family, waiting until this mini storm went away. Yet, a couple of young teenagers were standing outside on the drenched sidewalk. With no jackets. No umbrellas. Not even a hood to keep them dry.
They could care less that the ice cold rain was pounding onto their clothes and skin, knowing they'd be sick the very next day. It was the matter of losing a very important part of themselves. The half that made them whole. The person that would risk a bullet for the other to be saved. It was more than just a beloved friendship. They were eachother's lives.
Standing under a dimmed streetlight, the young girl and boy's eyes were focused on eachother. They both screamed over the thunderous rain, both unaware that they were having the worst fight of their lives.
"...I...I dont understand." The young girl gulped. Her beautiful ice blue eyes filled with tears. She was soaked from head to toe. Her clothes were ruined, which she knew her mother would kill her for later, but right now she didnt care at all. All she cared about was losing her best friend, Nick Jonas.
He stared at the girl he knew since pre-school. The girl who has stayed by his side when others walked out on him. He stared at the floor, scared to break her heart.
Because once he did...he knew he would break his own in the process.
he took a deep breath. "We can't be friends anymore! What don't you understand about that?" his old jeans and white tshirt were dripping onto the ground. you could barely see through the rain as the wind howled viciously. his drenched curly brown hair fell just above his eyes, causing the water from his hair to slide down onto his soft cheek, blending his tears with the rain.
The girl shook her head furiously. Like this whole thing was some kind of math problem she didnt understand. The numbers didnt add up. There was no solution.
"You're just going to give up like that? Our friendship wasted? You're my best friend! We have our fights but we get over it!" her eyes begged for understanding. She was moving to New York. her mother found a new job as a nurse. tonight was their last night together...and this arguement was ruining it.
"Please...dont let it be this way." she grabbed his hand and held it tightly, never wanting to let go. she loved Nick. He was the brother she never had. The guy who protected her from classmates who pressured her into smoking. The guy that helped her when she needed help studying for some big math test. The guy that stood up all night when she had the flu. Most importantly, the guy who was always there for her.
His dark brown eyes glanced back at the car that held her mom and uncle.
"They're waiting for you." he mumbled, not daring to look back into her eyes.
By then, she lost all hope for them. With her anger kicking in, she ripped off her bracelet that Nick gave her for her 14th birthday 2 years ago. She threw it at him and screamed.
"I hate you!"
"You're acting ridiculous." he retaliated.
"No, i just have some common sense. If you want to be this way, fine. Just go away!" she fell onto the ground, knowing her bestfriend wouldnt be there anymore.
"But--" He didnt expect her to act this way. He knew she was always stubborn...but not like this.
"No! I dont need you! I never want to see you again!" she snapped and stormed passed him toward the car.
They took their final glance back at eachother before heading off to seperate worlds. As the girl drove off with her family, Nick couldnt take it. He couldnt bare the fact that someone as loyal as her would ever say that she would never need him again. He would never be able to say her name again. The name that he will always remember.
Corie Gomez.
It was too late. The friendship was broken.
