This 1940-built streamline steam locomotive is oil-fueled since 1956 and was used as a steam locomotive monument in Bebra/Germany after the locomotive has been withdrawn. The steam engine has a nice sound, since it has three cylinders.

In that year the steam locomotive 01 1102 was put back into service as a heritage/Museum steam locomotive for special museum passenger trains. This steam locomotive has a top speed of 140 kph and 2470 Hp. Weight: 179,5 t.

Unfortunately, this streamline steam locomotive had an accident a couple of years ago and is now locked away in an unknown location.

  • I love these German streamliner locomotives! This is a good clip, clear, if sound not perfect.... Since you posted the video originally - has the loco been inspected or repaired, or is it even viewed as a static exhibit now?

  • thanks!

AFAIK it is just stored away at the moment.

  • what kind of accident happened that the loco is no longer in use ???

  • AFAIK another train ran into it.

  • @Jeansschwimmer The difficulty is to construct those "double, triple or quadruple compound engines" as they are called, to give each cylinder equal strengh ( torque on the crankshaft). If you do not do that you would have the same effect as if two cyclists sat on a tandem bicycle and the one would pedal harder than the other, in which case he would do all of the work because the other one would feel no pressure against his feet and be idle therefore, just moving his knees up and down.

  • @Jeansschwimmer That was done so that the engine could run fast. Engines with only one huge cylinder could of course work too with high pressures, but it takes the steam time to fully expand and that made these monsters slow. Single cylinder engines were typical of factory engines ( mill engines) or paddle steamers ( paddle wheels seldomly made more than 45 revs per minute.)

  • @F650Rcr When boilers were able to raise steam at higher pressures engineers built engines in which the steam gets into the first, smallest cylinder and expands there, driving the piston down, but is then led into a bigger cylinder where it expands further on and even into a third or fourth cylinder. In short: The steam pressure goes down and the volume of the cylinders ( surface of the piston)goes up so that all of them work with equal torque.

  • Psssst, kleine Kleinigkeit: Kannst du den test zu deinem video ändern? es müsste besser heißen " has been oil fueled since 1956" ( Für seit-Sätze muss man das Perfect nehmen, sonst heißt das "since" 'weil' oder 'da'.

  • Nice high-speed take off for an old steamer! Surprised me with the acceleration rate.

  • i think one of this train drove 200 kmh

  • I have seen a picture of the locomotive on a turntable, a bit rusted. I cannot remember where I have seen it, but it is not an "unknown location".

  • Baureiche 01 in aerodinamic shape is wery rare steam locomotive. I believe i see her someday at Wosztyn steamlokomotive parade in Poland
