What about a Judo chop?

I agree completely. But I would like to point out that they are dancing the lindy hop here, practicing a move/aerial/air step often called 'judo flip' because it looks like a throw you'd do in judo.
-
For dancing I think I agree. But not for judo, even during randori. I've done judo for long enough
-
of course falling on a mat is preferable to falling on a wooden floor. (although proper dance floors are very bouncy and take a lot of the impact)
But the intent here is to reduce the chance of falling in the first place.

What I am saying is that a matt is unsteady and has too much friction to dance on. This makes it very likely that either will trip during the build up, or that the lead is unable to reach the best position to support her during the aerial. The former may result in a twisted ankle, the latter may result in the lead dropping the follow and thus very possibly much worse than a twisted ankle.
When practicing aerials statically by all means use a matt, but the dance bit needs a smooth wooden floor.

@NomeN07 I did judo to orange belt. I did free fighting as part of it. I NEVER twisted any part of my body. You seriously think it would hurt LESS to twist your ankle on a wooden floor?

@TheHornyBug are you blind? look at her, she don't need a treadmill at all. And if you were thrown at around 40mph, you might pant too
-
man no one on youtube can do a good judo flip
-
if you want to trip and twist your ankle, go ahead and use matts. I do agree on the spotter part though.
Hey, no one's face was ripped open :-).
