This is the theme for "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" (with Jeremy Brett). It is called "221B Baker Street", and was composed by Patrick Gowers. This particular version I obtained from "The Return of Sherlock Holmes" DVD Collection. It is one of my favorite pieces from one of the best television shows of all time.

Enjoy!

  • Jeremy Brett nailed the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes character. I've read every Sherlock Holmes book I could lay my hands on (including a few not written by Sir Arthur). I'd never seen any TV show or movie that brought the character to life the way Jeremy Brett did. I love the theme song and every time I hear it it's like being transported back to the London of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's imagination, with it's simpler and more innocent time.

  • @MyMartianNameIskzjzt Great comment! I'm glad you enjoy it!

  • Which show is this exactly? As in, if I want to find it, does it have a more specific name? Because I'd imagine there are a lot of HOlmes series.

  • @CommanderGene It should have been easy to find based on the info I provided above, but google "Sherlock Holmes (1984 TV series)" and it will be the first result. Granada produced essentially four "collections" of Sherlock Holmes TV episodes with Jeremy Brett (plus some movies). The first of those collections is called "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes". They're all worth watching. :)

  • My teacher makes us watch episodes of Sherlock Holmes in class, I enjoy it every time I get to watch :)

  • @wtfmindy Wow! I wish I'd had a teacher like yours when I was in school, haha.

  • @CrazyManAndyX wasn't it 94 not 84?

  • Because of this theme (and its attachments), I picked up classical violin at age 14. Then, nearly 20 years later, I went looking for this music and stumbled across "Danse Macabre" by Camille Saint-Saens... and I found the James Ehnes version, which is now my most favourite musical piece ever.

I've been sidetracked a few times, and STILL this theme and its elusive, enigmatic brilliance has taken me to beautiful things in life.

I can't say the same for any other composition I've ever heard.

  • I light my cigaret and slowly smoke it meanwile I listen to this with my closed eyes. I feel like Holmes :D

  • By accidentally I had downloaded a long version of that theme but now I can't find it on my computer. Can anyone help me? That song was very fascinating and I will make a presentation about Sherlock Holmes in school. I really need that song.

  • Jeremy Brett is the best Sherlock Holmes, as Edward Hardwicke is the best Watson and Charles Gray the best Mycroft . I saw all the series recently and i am very happy . Agatha Christie and Conan Doyle are the best, as Poirot and Holmes are the best . The British people - an example of great culture !

  • 00:57 best part till the end :P ^^
