Deep in the interiors of the Congo, Dutch artist Renzo Martens single-handedly undertakes an epic journey and launches a program that helps the poor become aware of what is their primary capital resource: Images of Poverty.
He films UN Peacekeepers in their SUVs providing security for an international company so it can mine gold; corpses of gold -digging rebels surrounded by Western photographers; and white relief workers happily taking pictures of the recipients of their emergency aid, with their logo on every canvas tent they hand out. He teaches the Congolese poor that images of poverty aretheir countrys most lucrative natural resource.
