THE FORTUNES, al igual que The Move, formaban parte de la escena musical de Birmigham, movimiento que se denominó Brumbeat. Desde 1963 hasta 1967 consiguieron esporádicos éxitos en las listas de ventas con temas como "This Golden Ring", "Here it comes again" o "The Idol".

Pero un asunto turbio detuvo su fulgurante trayectoria: Su manager, Reg Calvert, propietario a la sazón de la cadena pirata Radio City, fue acribillado a tiros por un empleado de la cadena rival (también pirata) Radio London. Como habíamos dicho, formaban parte de la fraternidad Brumbeat, asi que no es de extrañar que Roy Wood, lider de The Move, les cediera "FIRE BRIGADE" para que THE FORTUNES intentasen reeditar el éxito que habían obtenido en los USA con "You´ve got your troubles" y, de esta manera, intentaran remontar su errática carrera. Pero de nuevo la suerte les fue esquiva y el single obtuvo muy poco impacto en las listas del Billboard.

Este promocional, en flamante color, fue rodado en 1969, supongo que como parte de la fallida publicidad del single "FIRE BRIGADE".

  • New york dj and member of the bourd of directors of the rock and roll hall of fame norm n. night said that glen dale was the leader of the fortunes maybee he was the leader as far as business decisions or guitar solos but bass player rod allen was the lead singer [ they all sing but you can see from the video that he gets the girl ] .[ they did a version of maria on there first album that has tremendous harmonizing ] .

  • This is not a half bad version! The video is a bit hokey (a bit Benny Hill-esque) but I love the girl in it - she is so very English.

  • Weird they should think Glen Dale ( lead guitarist ) was the band`s leader - he left the band in 1966 to pursue a solo career ( ! ) and they had most of their successful singles and work after this time !! Rod Allen remained their lead singer until he died in 2008 .
