Barack Obama has embarked on his first visit to Asia since taking office as US president in January.

The four-nation tour, taking him to Japan, China, South Korea and a regional summit in Singapore, is intended to strengthen some important alliances and may also bring him into contact with senior officials from Myanmar's military government.

Al Jazeera's senior Washington correspondent Rob Reynolds looks at Obama's Asian agenda.

  • vacation??? you're joking right?? Obama has a lot of work to do to restore America's good name abroad which was destroyed during the bush admin. He would probably prefer to be at home with his family. America cannot prosper without international cooperation...

  • China has just about became 10 times richer than the U.S. and Europe combined with their investment in Africa. The face of America will change because we will need good relations with China and South America.

  • Enjoy your little fairy tale with your liberal Democrat friends while you can Obama! Because the shows over next November. We've had our fill of your Chicago style Socialist bullshit, and we're bringing your ass down a notch. Your ignorance of the will of the American people will be your Waterloo my friend!

  • Maybe the muslims and the christians will battle and kill each other out. Then the sane people that are left can rule! YAY

  • obama is trying to grant free clearence to muslims all over the world like he is doing to the U.S. GOD HELP US !!!

  • come on with it little man.

  • BHO- worse than Carter...

  • @LaMule3000 screw you and your development, granted there are kind people everywhere, I am going to cheer when the train leaves the station, it is a trainwreck,

  • Screw interational cooperation, screw the little ugly fish people, and damn bush to hell for his strategic economic pact with china. Twist the heads off the mother fockers that sold our debt to the chinese, who the heck is insane enough to sell debt and who the heck is psychotic enough to buy it? This isn't happening no one in america is stupid enough to think americans would ever accept being in debt to a communist country. hunt them down and stone them

  • The nazi imperialist dog U.S military get the ffuc OUT of Japan and South Korea now. The only way to kick the nazi dog U.S out is through VIOLENCE mean. Asia MUST be UNITED, especially China....and help Japan to end the racist ameriKKKa's COLONIALISM in Japan and the rest of Asia.

Vietnam, N. Korea...etc...kicked the nazi imperialist trash U.S out through the BARREL OF THE GUNS....that's the only language the nazi U.S can understand.

  • Poeple seems to have short memories about the United States 'cos I have heard this story before when USSR was challenging the US in the 60's & even upto the 80's. The United States will always find away to bring China to their senses by hook or crook. You only have to wait for the next Republican President to see how American will undo all these softly approach to the world that Obama has created. I supported Obama but I'm not happy with his indecision & lack of backbone Bush had as President.

  • To all Americans:

You need to see for yourself what is happening in Asia. As a Canadian engineer I had to chance to visit China, Korea, Thailand and India many times since 2000. The development over there is incredible. More importantly I've met a lot of decent, kind and hard working individuals who share family values. You can either be part of it or see the train leave the station. Obama's personal connection to Indonesia is an asset for the US. Just buy a ticket to Asia now and go!
