House Majority Leader John Boehner and Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod are both claiming victory after a debt ceiling deal was passed in the House. Cenk Uygur sets the record straight.
@Dblock7185 He had 60 Senattors for VERY BRIEF periods. Most of the time he did NOT enjoy a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. Without a Filibuster-proof in the Senate, it doesn't matter whether he had a majority in the House or not. There's a reason why the Republicans have been known as the Party of NO for more than a year now.
I'm not saying Obama is a competitive leader, but he did not enjoy the supermajorities that Republicans say he did.
@auron130 I can't speak for everyone but it he tried and failed I be a lot more proud of him that if he doesn't try or he compromises so much that any success he has is minimized to the point where it can't ever be called a democratic victory. Now a days I'm sure he's happy just to get past the next hurdle no matter what it takes but for me it only weakens the party more and more. He may think he's winning battles but if he looses the support of his base then he looses the war.
Good reflection about US... (some ideas) 1600s-1900s most ppl in US poor ignorant farmers no education so rich leaders very much influence. In South about money from day one. Aristocrats from England got plantations from King to make money from tobacco, cotton, etc...they also ran the gov't. They
wanted more land, money etc. The ppl didn't have much say...most regular Americans supported the King in 1776. What made America great was a congress for the people. ...but that idea has faded.
@tmmy773 was thinking more internally like southern vs northern. Americans are just war mongers. Just like in 2001, as was in 1771 we fight amongst each other because we got no one else. Then along comes some one else, que middle east, cue britian, and then we join hands, sing kumbaya, and go after them. rinse and repeat.
I have zero pity for you brainwashed moron Liberals who bitch about not getting enough "Change". You weren't smart enough to realize that he had no intention of giving you change on election day, so you deserve exactly what you're getting...
You ridiculed people who actually supported a legitimate candidate like Ron Paul and called anyone who didn't vote for Obama a Racist, and now chances are someone you know has been laid off due to his policies. Good job, Asshats. You disgust me...
@MichaelPAUSA He didn't have, 50 .He had 59 with Bernie sanders. That's, 60 in my book .The 111th congress . .Plus it's not like he couldn't use reconciliation to get his bills through , just like Bush did with the tax cuts. That's been killing us for the last ten years and counting .The HCB is Bob dole ,1999 health care bill and Mitt Romney plan combine . There's nothing progressive about that HCB period.
@Dblock7185 Fillibuster proof majority my ASS. It takes 60 votes not 50 to overide a potential Fillibuster. The Dems haven't had 60 votes since Kennedy and that older Senator from WV died. Get your facts straight. As far as Oboma being NO JFK or FDR your right. He's GWB jr lite. The fact the WH has no respect or intrest in promoting or protecting existing Progressive legislation there is no denying that fact. Other then limited support for the HCR bill or Un-Employment extensions.
@burneden you are right your comparison of Justinian I present day. That is a very good idea that i hadn't thought of before. I can tell you know alot about history and i appreciate your input :) So you mean the way the US cannot respect the differences between Western Europe/ Europe and the Middle East? The way we try to force ourselves on the Arabs with a diff culture like we did in Europe WWI, WWII? That is correct. But i feel it was right that Justinian failed. They were two cultures.
