Take a look at Casey Creek, a little stream crossing the trail in Oregon, and most hikers see an obstacle to avoid. But we see a great (and potentially cold and wet) gear-testing opportunity. Get an up-close peek at one of our favorite waterproofing tests.

  • Very unscientific way of testing! Anyway what about the boots? What boot won? Any info?

  • Check out the April 2007 issue of Backpacker magazine for all of the Editors Choice winners. The Kayland boots were Editor's Choice for 2007.

  • @unacarafea What would you do? If you want quality soles you just buy Vibram and all you need to test besides that is Goratex. Maybe check the way the laces are attached so that they don't leave you with the weak attachments that could break mid-hike but I think there was more in the magazine...

  • This is how you test goratex boots !!! I asked a guy in the shop which ones he'd recommend and he was like: 'what do you need them to do?' and I told him that I want to go through a small stream and still have dry feet like I did with all my previous hiking boots. And he would not get why I would need something like that and tried to talk me into crappy new models which were worth ****. And yes... LOWA were among them.

  • Was that a joke? It was just a couple of guys standing in water and yelling "I got a leak". Please tell me Backpacker Magazine tests are not all that lame.

  • scarpa mustang?

  • Alright, so, if price isn't an issue, out of the dozens to choose from, which backpacking boot would you get for long days and heavy loads, on trail, and off (bushwhacking) in the Adirondacks?

  • lol

  • No one can say u guys dont really test em hahaa
